Job is visited by friends who try to convince him to repent of sin. Wisdom told them the good are blessed and the wicked are punished. Job insisted he was innocent of sin.
Job 13:15 - Though He slay me, I will trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him." This verse sums up the battle of Job.
As the conversation continues with Job begins to ask for pity and even considers that God hates him. Has he gone too far? Have we ever been there--at the silence of God?
Yet Job has moments of shining hope:
I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see Him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
Job 19:25-27 NIV
The friends--right or wrong?
The friends never prayed with Job. They sought answers so they could understand instead of listening.
Job--right or wrong?
In a regrettable speech, Job claimed he could go to court against God. Now Elihu enters the picture. He is angry that Job justified himself rather than God and he was angry that his friends kept condemning Job and found no answers.
Elihu exhorts Job to wait on the Lord. In the distant a storm is approaching and Elihu reminds Job Chapters 36-37)
Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds,
how he thunders from his pavilion?......
His thunder announces the coming storm;
When God is silent
When storms come, listen to the Lord.
Now God is ready to speak..........
