A summary of today's sermon:
Chapter 1 - Verses 1-3- Job was a blameless and upright man before the Lord. The Lord was pleased with Job.
Verses 4-5 - Job's children spent a lot of time partying, after which Job would pray for them and offer sacrifices in case they had sinned and cursed God. Does this reveal a fear Job had for his children?
Verses 6-7 - Contrast the above verses with these verses. Sons of God - the Sons of Job. Sons of God presented themselves, but Job had to send for his sons. God was obviously in control. Job did not control his sons.
Verse 8 begins the dialogue between the LORD and the Satan. Again we see that Job did nothing wrong as the Lord considered him blameless, but God allowed the Devil to attack Job.
Job's reaction is a challenge to us. In response to the great loss he suffered, Job worshipped God. He showed incredible faith to trust God.
When God is silent, it may be because of chastisement for sin or it may be a time of testing.
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." Luke 22:31-32
Think of the silence of Jesus when Lazarus died. For three days, Mary and Martha heard only silence. Then came the answer.
When God is silent -
Has God trusted you with His silence— a silence that has great meaning? God’s silences are actually His answers. ...If Jesus Christ is bringing you into the understanding that prayer is for the glorifying of His Father, then He will give you the first sign of His intimacy— silence. Oswald Chambers
